I think HA will be around because you gotta have some sort of puggable 8 vs 8 imo. The rank probably will still be there as well since gw2 is a sequel not a do-over. Some guy with r12 logging onto gw2 and being reset to r0 is unlikely.

Honestly? No, I don't expect HA in GW2. The place is already a mish-mash mess of horrible pugs that need to rely on the latest version of IWAY to compensate for lack of coordination, getting rolled by organized guilds who do nothing but HA.

I think they really wanted everyone getting in on the HA action, you know realms actually fighting for fissure/UW access, but it instead became the purview of an elite. They now know to get large numbers involved in realm vs realm they're going to need their super-AB "mist battle" which you can likely solo or form parties as you please. Actually organized teams can go GvG.

Some unrated or relaxed-requirement GvG would be both a better use of resources and funnel more people to serious GvG. It would likely reduce the amount of smurfing going on too, why hop to another guild if you can screw around on your main one when you want.

you need some way to differentiate the bad PvPers from the good PvPers because if you dont people will always lie about their experience to get into a good pvp group.

if there was only an easier way to make a point system that actually says something about your skill, like having a higher rank give you a fame because they think youre good (then there will be the whole, "I give you famez 4 moniez...)

i dont know if it is possible, but right now the fame system (at least until r6+) is based on how well you can play gimmicks.

@OP: i hope they will have something 8v8 in GW2... but so far i have no faith in that game based on what i have read about it. still waiting for some real information from GW themselves, though.

I hope there is no HA in gw2 unless the party is smaller than the gvg party and larger than a TA or gw2 equivalent party. I know lots of my friends and guildies loved HA at 6v6 b/c it gave us something to do when we didn't have 8 people on to GvG. 6v6 HA was win... but too many people aren't open to change, just b/c they couldn't run w/e pug build (gimmick, iway, spike, or w/e) anymore and are too lazy to create new 6v6 pug builds (I think NR tranq was popular in 6v6 though).

Wow, anet is supporting balanced. Imagine that.

I hope they keep tombs. That was pretty mad fun playing it, and it will be again if the keep it. Just whoa, how many good old memories i can remember...
From my 1 HoH win to fighting and cursing against iway, then vimways, and then seeing my playmate got his 1 month lasting fame (sierra's build, if anyone remembers, overpowered "INCOMING" spam + thumpers), than playing with Power in rspike team, bspike with SoG (some guys in this guild are still complete idiots... ), and unlocking iway at r8

Yea, good old days, i hope the come againone day...

Don't worry. GW2 will become a bigger PvE grindfest than GW1. And they will remove several of the current PvP-modes and stick to GvG and huge Alliance Battles. Exactly what all PvE players want. (It's one title less they need to concern about because they could never max it) I don't see a bright future for GW2 then. A hell of a lot players like PvP as it is now. It just needs some changes.

@OP- we don't know much about GW2 pvp or GW2 itself. It's even hard to say whether Guild Wars will be revived in GW2.

Yes exactly, the skills aren't balanced around HA at all, which makes for stupid gimmicks. Something balanced in GvG might not be the same in HA, which is why I would rather want properly balanced skills (skills that doesn't promote any form of gimmick on any type of PvP match) over keeping both formats.

Thing is - if they do have HA in GW2, it's going to be the same as now because they'll only look for people who have R8 hero dedicated in HoM so it's the same vicious circle that takes the fun out of pvp now.

ha died just about year and half ago. let it stay dead in gw 2, lets hope that a.net will learn from their mistakes and make a new 8v8 arena other than gvg, that will be worth our time. r.i.p HA.

PvP WAS a hit, to anyone old enough to remember logging on at ANY time of day, and seeing 6-9 international districts in tomb of the primeval kinds, and 2-3 american districts.

Tombs was HUGE, where did everyone go? Anet pissed em off, they left. gg

a lot of those were casual PvE'ers who got tired of elitism.


so far the only mention of PvP in GW2 is World PvP (for PvE characters) and something close to GvG where everyone is UAX'd.

That was back when in year 1, and the player base was 1/10 of what it is now. The majority of the core players (exept Izzy's brownnoses) from then have moved on to other games. And back then there was only US or EU servers so it seamed like it was HUGE.

GW is promoted as TEH PvP-game, yet in reality you'll find that PvP is more balanced/fun in Runescape.
GW sucks for PvP, just look at the current meta in ANY form. Offcorse, with a game based around 8 skills on every bar, it will obviously turn into Build Wars after a while. However, Anet (Izzy) could have done more (something actually) to prevent this from happening this fast (Like what, a year after NF release and GW is done?).

At the moment (And I gave up hope), GW is more Build Wars than ever. If you want to be competitive, it's not an option anymore to run a meta-bar. It's mandatory, or you'll simply get whiped within a matter of seconds...

Gimmicks are free fame -shrug- And gimmick builds are in GvG as well. Just there isn't as many of them. The thing with skills too, is once something gets nerfed, people start looking for something else that's overpowered etc. Sure gvg has more balanced, but I dunno. Gimmick isn't that big of a deal in HA, those who grind fame, don't have fun, and they usually lose anyway.

lol... We run whatever we want and we still win all the time. Our mesmer bars are sooo screwed up. It's not meta, it's whatever they feel like bringing. We do the same with our warriors and monks half the time too. LoD with Divine Healings is fun. :P

Sure, U can run your own build, your own fun build, but non-the-less the only reason why it will work is because you abuse broken shit... (Para's, Fire Eles, ...)

Also, getting to HoH during dead hours was hard I hurd o.0
